Try to prevent lice from entering your hair or surroundings. However, if they eventually find their way, you should think of some home remedies for lice treatment especially if you are looking for a cost effective means of getting this done. Removing lice may be difficult, but you will certainly succeed if you follow these tips.

The cheapest way of removing these tiny insects from the hair is by combing out. However, this takes a lot of time and you will need someone around you for assistance. The combing out technique is good especially in areas where available chemicals for the treatment do not work well. Combing out is common in Britain.

Since combing out means removing them manually, you will have to do this every day for about two weeks. This is to make sure you cover the life cycle which takes about 10-14 days to complete. In each of these days, you will spend several hours on the chair with a comb to remove them. This means your chair should have a back rest and the comb should have a good grip to make the work easier. You can play an interesting album for while the work goes on.

Another method is by applying medicated shampoo to the hair. When you do this, leave it to stand for at least ten minutes before washing. You may do this in a bathtub while playing one of your favorite songs.

The work of the medicated shampoo is to kill the insects in your hair. You will therefore have to remove them when you are through. This can be done by rinsing with 50% vinegar. 50% vinegar is made by adding equal amounts of vinegar and water. If rubbed vigorously, the vinegar will dissolve the dead insects for easy removal. Since it has an unpleasant smell, you will have to rinse the hair a couple of times with fresh water.

After ten days, you should be able to notice a great difference in your hair. If this does not happen, try combining vinegar and olive oil in equal quantity and apply to the scalp. When you are done, cover the hair with your shower cap and leave for about sixty minutes before washing with the shampoo.

Coconut oil can be used in place of vinegar and olive oil. While enough research has not been made yet, it has been observed that there is something in coconut oil that repels these tiny insects. When you use coconut oil, you will have to allow the hair stay for several hours before washing with shampoo. Apart from removing the insects, coconut oil also makes your hair silky.

Finally, endeavor to keep your surrounding clean if these lice treatment methods should be effective. Wash your combs and clothes with hot water if you suspect lice on them. Your car seats and carpets should also be vacuumed. Try to soak these items for at least 10 minutes before washing them. Since lice is usually brought into the homes by children, it is important to educate them on the dangers of sharing combs and hair brush.
